How to Overcome Creative Obstacles and Find Your New Art Path!

I'm so excited to be back to blogging! It's been quite a journey. In the last six months, I discovered I'm allergic to acrylic paint after using it for three-plus years. As I made larger paintings, the reactions got worse, causing shortness of breath and other issues. I talked about this on my YouTube channel if you want more details.
It's been mentally challenging because I fell in love with acrylic and abstract painting, then suddenly it ended. I tried different brands, but ultimately had to accept the allergy. I realized it connected to other allergy issues I have - it's a bigger problem than just the acrylic.
The good news? I can use watercolor, Oil, and gouache without issues! Changing mediums has been difficult imagine losing the ability to use paint you spent years learning. This was a huge obstacle that really took me out, but I let myself feel the emotions and work through it.
I finally decided to follow something I'd always been interested in but put aside. Before abstract painting, I always wanted to draw buildings and urban scenes. I love buildings and odd things - I'd see something and think, "I'd love to draw that." I don't know why I thought abstract would be easier, because it's not - there's a whole process to it.
So I decided to try urban sketching. It was hard at first, but I kept pushing forward, taking classes and making sketches. Now I've really grown comfortable with it. What I love about urban sketching is you don't have to be perfect - it's about catching the essence of a scene.

I chose abstract originally because I didn't want to be perfect. I struggle with perfectionism sometimes and wanted to get away from that. Urban sketching is perfect for drawing without trying to be perfect - no rulers, just being yourself. That's all I want.
I hope to encourage anyone going through something similar. If you have to change your medium, don't give up. Feel the emotions, work through them, and try something else. You might stumble upon something you were meant to do even more than before. Sometimes I feel like God points us in different directions, and it could be a good thing. There are obstacles, but we need to think about overcoming them instead of letting them stop us. Be ok with not knowing the next step and working towards it anyway. Walk by faith and the path will become clear.

What does the future look like? I'm still working that out. For now, I'll share everything I'm learning via the blog, YouTube, and social media. I also love tech, so I'll share what I know for artists who struggle with the tech side.

My goal is to encourage everyone to be who God created them to be. The space will change - I'll focus on urban sketching and some abstract work, but my abstract will be different. My website will go through changes too. I hope you subscribe and stay connected - looking forward to sharing more!

Have you ever had to completely change your creative approach due to unexpected circumstances? What medium or technique did you switch to, and how did it work out?
